Labradorite  A variety of feldspar which has a varied display of colors suggestive of the northern lights. Although it has a dirty grey colour in the rough, cut stones aquire a metallic lustre and a beautiful sheen at the right angle. The stones are usually cut with a flat surface and have been carved as cameos. The original source circa 1770 was the island of St.Paul, Labrador.
Lampwork  Lampwork beads are made by melting narrow rods of glass by hand over an open flame (usually a torch). The glass is wrapped around a thin metal rod (a mandrel), which later becomes the hole through the bead. Many effects can be achieved through using various colors of glass and various techniques. Lapis Lazuli  A lovely blue gemstone composed mainly of lazurite and calcite, popular in ancient Egypt. Said to promote emotional healing and stability.
Lariat  A type of necklace that mimics a lasso. Can be multi-stranded. Similar to a Y-necklace. (photo by ben.thomasson)
Leopardskin Jasper  A type of jasper with a spotted appearancce resembling the skin of a leapard. The spots on leopardskin jasper are usually pink with a dark background. Metaphysically it enhances your connection with your spiritual protective forces and/or animal totems.
Liver of Sulfur  A chemical compound used to give an "antiqued" look or darkened coating or patina to silver and bronze jewelry. An in-depth article can be found here: Liver of Sulfer.

LoomworkLoomwork  Beadwork can be done by hand, but a loom is faster and easier. Small wire ones like the one pictured are inexpensive and can be purchased at bead stores. For larger projects, you can make your own out of wood. More about Looms and Loomworking
