Jewelry Ideas Using Leather
Bead Embroidered Cuff Bracelets
This is a grouping of three bead embroidered cuff bracelets created using different types of fabric, leather, suede, glass seed beads, freshwater pearls, glass beads and semi-precious jade chips. I love bead embroidery because it feels like I’m painting with beads.
Love At First Sight Wrap Bracelet
This fun beaded bracelet was created with 4mm sparkly brown and, just a touch of, hot pink crystal fire polished beads. Its “wrapped” effect was created by threading the beads with 10 meters of size 2 cotton cord onto soft 1.5mm brown leather cord. I made the catch for the clasp by knotting the ends […]
Exotic Beauty Bloodstone Necklace
My grandmother had given me a wooden bead necklace that had crazy safari animals on it along with these cool wooden beads in green and black. I took it apart and began to play with the wooden disks. I had purchased the triangle of bloodstone about a year ago and it was waiting for a […]
Turquoise Wrist Wrap
The main materials used in this unique bracelet is 8 mm turquoise magnesite stones and bronze leather cord. I started by using the leather cord, making two strands, then I started weaving the stones between the two strand cord so that the bracelet will be wrapped three times around the wrist. Finally, I attached a […]
Casual Salsa Necklace
I created this silver metal clay necklace to intentionally be charmy and have tons of movement when worn. I attached silver clay rings and random clusters of brown glass pearls and crystal beads to a sterling silver cable chain which I then anchored to a color-coordinated leather cord to make the necklace a little more […]
Burlesque Butterfly
This is my entry “Burlesque Butterfly” for the Challenge of Beaders United. The theme was Wings. I had this butterfly for some time, and the idea of attaching it to leather was already in my head. Initially I wanted the butterfly just surrounded by beads, but that is not me, I ended up covering a […]
Chocolate & Gold Wrap Bracelet
Whilst on holiday this year I found a shop which sold a lot of wrap bracelets. I thought they were lovely but quite expensive so decided to attempt to make one when I got home. To make the bracelet I have used 4mm gold glass beads, brown leather cord, 1 button and fireline to thread […]
Grand-plaque Embroidered Necklace
This embroidery necklace is made with cat-eye cabochons, fresh water pearls, Swarovski crystals, and 11/0, 6/0 seed beads. Covered with leather….no toggle. Attached to a spiral rope necklace. I enjoyed making this necklace and it’s going to be hard to let it go. I love all my pieces but this one is my baby!
Pink Copper Goddess
A beautiful goddess in pinks and copper. I embroidered her with copper iris colored glass beads, with bits and pieces from other jewelry parts for her crown which has a fabric pink flower rosette and mother of pearl. Inside is black felt and back is black leather. The same coordinating beads around the edges. Pink […]
Koala Scribbly Pendant
Starting from a design for ‘wiggly’ chain by Linda Jones, this was inspired by the Scribble Bark gum tree which looks as if Koalas have been slip-sliding down the tree. Gold plate wire, with a green venetian-style glass bead and two little clear Swarovski crystals. The ends of the fine leather thong are bound in […]
Adira Copper And Swarovski Wirework Necklace
I named this necklace “Adira”. It’s Hebrew and means: majestic, mighty and strong. I hand forged copper wire to create the intricate framework. I took more copper wire to create the ornate wirework. The focal point of the necklace is the wirewrapped 15x14mm jet black Swarovski crystal. The necklace also has smaller jet black, siam […]
The Raya Necklace
The wooden crescent used in this piece was part of findings reserved for an upcoming collection for Chanel. I was lucky to run across this piece. The texture is very smooth and the pendant is large and unique. I added intricately carved cylinder wood as an accent and coconut beads to complete the necklace. I […]
Dragonfly Billabong Necklace
Dragonfly Billabong is a representation of the centrality of water in Australia, a country where droughts feature often with a few “good” years thrown in between in order to make us forget. I used Lacy’s Stiff Stuff as the foundation. I dyed the white foundation with permanent black dye powder mixed into water and let […]
Purple Mood Wire Wrapped Pendant
The heart of this flower pendant was made from amethysts, garnets and silver beads. The petals were wrapped with sterling silver wire. I like to mix different thicknesses of wire. The pendant is strung on a black leather cord.
A Marriage In Purple
Purple is one of my husband’s favorite colors and animal print is one my weaknesses. So accidentally dropping a dyed hammer-shell bead next to a piece of purple leather in my workroom made me think the two were meant to marry! I accented zebra print shells, mother-of-pearl nugget shells and hand-cut leather with multi-shaped black […]
Wrapped Bracelet
For this bracelet I used 4mm Czech glass beads I bought at a bead show, bronze-colored leather and Griffin silk thread. The button used was purchased from a store that was going out of business. The bracelet wraps around the wrist one time. This was my first attempt at making a wrapped bracelet.
Roadside Attraction Number Thirty One
These earrings are crafted from up-cycled leather and fabric. I used stainless steel links to create a chain maille drop. Stainless steel is a hypoallergenic metal and gradually gleams with wear. The black beads are glass. For findings I use leverback hooks which are perfect for stretched ears as they secure tightly.
My Mementos Bracelet
This bracelet was fun to make. I received some porcelain beads for Christmas in this Red, Black and White color theme. I dug through my supplies and found many of the little treasures that I put into this piece. I took 3 12″ strands of leather cord, and knotted them around the silver lobster clasp […]
Coloured Soul Tagua Necklace
This is a simple necklace to construct but fashionably effective. I paired tagua and acai berry with faux brown leather which I hand-knotted to allow the natural “vegetable ivory” tagua to show. The necklace is adjustable. I added cherry red acai berry beads to the ends for a finished look.
Splatter Wirework Necklace
This necklace was made from 18 gauge copper wire. I randomly shaped the wire into a design I liked. I added a few copper beads to the wire. I then hammered the copper in a few places, mostly on the curves, to add character. I finished the piece by attaching it to leather cord.
