Amazonite

Overview
Amazonite is a brilliant green variety of feldspar. Despite its name, it is not found in the Amazon, but instead in parts of Russia, USA, and Madagascar, as well as others. Amazonite is believed to improve confidence and self worth and is sometimes called the "hope stone".

About the Stone

Amazonite is a 5-6 on the Mohs scale. It is sometimes called "The Amazon Stone", but it is not found in the Amazon area. Deposits have been located in Russia, Madagascar, and several parts of the United States, and are occasionally found in Brazil and Australia.

Amazonite has a definite blue-green color, and is sometimes mixed with white.

Metaphysical Properties

Amazonite is said to foster feeling of power. It is an inspirational stone used for truth, honor, and self love. Amazonite is said to be very calming and helps with self expression. Amazonite if often used for meditation purposes.

Amazonite in Jewelry

Amazonite is usually found in cabochon form, and is almost never faceted. While often used in jewelry, occasionally it can crack. Amazonite has a color rarely seen in the gemstone world, so many jewelers believe it is worth the work. Although amazonite can be hard to find, it is not exceptionally expensive.
