Azurite

Overview
Azurite is a beautiful dark blue colored mineral found all over the world. It was traditionally used as a pigment or dye as well as in jewelry. Azurite is believed to help develop a persons psychic abilities and intuition. Azurite is often found growing alongside malachite, sometimes even growing together in one stone.

About the Stone

Azurite is a fairly soft mineral, only a 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Azurite has been used in jewelry and other adornments since ancient times, and is produced by weathering copper ore deposits, although there is actually very little copper in the Azurite stone itself. The name "Azurite" is derived from the Greek word kuanos meaning deep blue.

Geologists and mineralogists use azurite to approximate the location of copper deposits as azurite (as well as malachite) are byproducts of copper, forming as the deposit weathers.

Azurite is found in many parts of the world including the United States, Australia, Chile, Peru, France, Namibia, Russia, and Egypt.

Metaphysical Properties

Azurite is believed to stimulate the third eye, as well as develop a persons psychic abilities. Azurite is also used to expand the mind, stimulate the memory, and clear stress. Azurite is also toted as a great tool for conquering phobias.

When azurite and malachite are mixed together in the same stone, is a very powerful mix; unblocking a persons spiritual vision, and opening the third eye.

Azurite in Jewelry

Azurite is an absolutely stunning stone, it is no wonder this gemstone has been used since ancient times in jewelry. When you find azurite and malachite together it is a rare gem and the mix of these two colors is something to behold. There is some debate that exposed azurite loses its color over time.

Keep in mind when buying your azurite that it is still a soft stone, so may not hold up as well as harder stones. Pick a stone that truly calls to you. A carefully picked stone can really suit its owner and bring out the best in both the piece and the wearer.
